Long-distance moving is regulated differently than local work. If we're crossing state lines, we operate under a USDOT number issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The pricing model changes too — you're paying by weight or cubic footage, not by the hour, and there's often a line-haul charge plus fees for stairs, long carry, and packing materials.
We'll do an in-home estimate or a detailed video walkthrough to calculate the load size. You'll get a binding or not-to-exceed estimate in writing before we book the job. If it's a dedicated truck — meaning your stuff is the only load on that truck — delivery is faster and you control the timeline. If it's a consolidated move, your items share space with other customers' shipments, which cuts cost but adds 3–7 days to the delivery window.
“A dedicated truck means your items are the only load on that truck — faster delivery and you control the schedule. A consolidated move shares space with other customers' loads, which lowers the cost but adds 3–7 days to the delivery window.”
For moves to neighboring states like Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, or the Carolinas, expect 1–3 days in transit. Cross-country moves to the West Coast or Northeast typically take 7–10 days depending on the route and whether we're making other stops along the way. We coordinate delivery windows and call 24 hours ahead so you know when to expect us.
If you need storage on either end — say the closing date shifts or the new place isn't ready — we can hold your load in our warehouse or arrange third-party storage at the destination. Everything gets inventoried on and off the truck, and you'll get a copy of the inventory sheet. We photograph high-value items and note any pre-existing damage so there's no confusion later.
Georgia doesn't require movers to carry household goods insurance, but we carry it anyway. Basic liability is usually $0.60 per pound per item, which doesn't go far if something breaks. You can buy full-value protection for an additional fee, or some customers just add a rider to their homeowner's policy. We'll walk you through the options when we quote the job.
We handle interstate corporate relocations, military moves, and residential long-distance jobs. If you're moving for work and your employer is covering the cost, we provide the documentation and receipts they'll need for reimbursement.
